Prayers for Vocations Day

For the Church
Loving God, in the name of Jesus, we ask you to send your Holy Spirit to us so that men and women among us respond to your call to service.
We pray for those considering marriage, but especially those who hear your invitation to be a priest, deacon, sister, or brother.
May those who are opening their hearts and minds to your call be encouraged and strengthened through our prayers and support.
Amen.

Heavenly Father, call many holy young people to consecrated lif for the sake of you kingdom. Call an abundance of virtuous  men to serve  in ordained ministry as laborers for your harvest. Call numerous others to faithful, chaste, and fruiful love in the sacrament of marriage, as signs and witnesses of Christ's love for his Church. Through baptism you have called all your children, in whatever state of life, to love and serve you. Fill us with your Holy Spirit and grant us each the grace to follow you in perfect obedience and charity. With Mary and Joseph as our models and intercessors, we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Me, Personally [by Cardinal John Newman]
God has created me to do Him some definite service; He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission—I never may know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. Somehow I am necessary for His purposes, as necessary in my place as an Archangel in his—if, indeed, I fail, He can raise another, as He could make the stones children of Abraham. Yet I have a part in this great work; I am a link in a chain, a bond of connexion between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good, I shall do His work; I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it, if I do but keep His commandments and serve Him in my calling. Amen.--John Henry Cardinal Newman

Lord Jesus, up until now You have been quietly preparing me to be Your disciple. Now the time of preparation is ending. I seem to hear You say to me as You said once to Peter: "Will you also go away?" Peter replied, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."

I stand with Peter. Through prayer and counsel, show me, Lord, where it is in Your vineyard that You want me to serve. Then give me strength to be fruitful.

Mary, Mother and Model, help me to respond in generous love to the call of you divine son. Amen.

A Special Prayer for Peace

Lord,
The plight of our country is deep and the suffering of Christians is severe and frightening.

Therefore, we ask you Lord to spare our lives, and to grant us patience, and courage to continue our witness of Christian values with trust and hope.

Lord, peace is the foundation of life; Grant us the peace and stability that will enable us to live with each other without fear and anxiety, and with dignity and joy.

Glory be to you
Forever. Amen.

Catholic Climate Pledge

I/We Pledge to:
PRAY and reflect on the duty to care for God's creation and protect the poor and vulnerable.
LEARN about and educate others on the causes and moral dimensions of climate change.
ACCESS how we--as individuals and in our families, parishes, and other affiliations--contribute to climate change by our own energy use, consumption, waste, etc.
ACT to change our choices and behaviors to reduce the ways we contribute to climate change.
ADVOCATE for Catholic principles and priorities in climate change discussions and decisions, especially as they impact those who are poor and vulnerable.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pledge of Commitment to Protect and Heal God's Creation
The following pledge of commitment  may be read in unison or alternation.

We have come to renew our covenant with God and with one another in Christ Jesus, our Lord. We have come to protect God's creation.

We have come as followers of Jesus to commit ourselves anew to one another and to heal injustice and poverty.

We have come to stand together against all threats to life.

We have come to discover some new beauty every day in God's creation: the sunrise and sunset, birds, flowers, and trees, rainbows in the sky, the stars, the many forms of life in the forest.

We have come to listen to the "music of the universe"--water flowing over rocks, the wind, trees bending in the wind, raindrops pattering on the roof.

We will remember always that God speaks to us through the beauty of his creation, and we will try our best to answer God's call to reverence all that he has created.

Mary Rosary

Memorare (Remember O Most Gracious Virgin Mary)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;
to you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Salve Regina (Hail Holy Queen)
HAIL, HOLY QUEEN, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.

Oratio sequens post Salve, Regina dici potest: (The following prayer may be added after the "Hail, Holy Queen)"
Let us pray. O GOD, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
