Advent Prayers

Advent Sunday, Book of Common Prayer
Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armor of light, now is the time of this mortal life, in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious Majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through him who lives and reigns with thee and the Holy Spirit, now and ever. Amen

Father, in the wilderness of the Jordan you sent a messenger to prepare people's hearts for the coming of your Son. Help me to hear his words and repent of my sins, so that I may clearly see the way to walk, the truth to speak, and the life to live for Him, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

God of the covenant, we give You glory and honor for sending Your Son Jesus Christ to fulfill all Your promises. By Your grace send us now preachers of repentance who will make us a people prepared to receive Him in faith. Lead us to rejoice in His coming in the flesh to accomplish all things for our salvation. Fill us with hope that we may be in constant readiness for the day of His coming again. Grant us Your Spirit that we may live  as those who know that He who has come is with us now, that we may be with Him when all shall behold His coming. In His name we ask it. Amen.
